These awnings are a good choice to protect people, doors and windows from the sun, inclement weather or unpredictable environments. Conversely, a rust-proof plastic awning can be a very simple, minimalist addition to any style home or business. Acrylic and Polycarbonate are exceedingly strong and durable. Lifetime expectancy typically runs 20-30 years, with most manufacturers offering warranties of up to 30 years or longer.
What is a Rust-Proof Awning?
It’s fabricated from panels made of a thermoplastic polymer commonly known as acrylic or polycarbonate. The panels can be clear, translucent or opaque, and they can also be colored. Because this material looks very different from fabric or metal awnings, it offers an intriguing alternative for designing window and door awnings.
Benefits of a Rust-Proof Awnings
Acrylic and Polycarbonate have outstanding optical properties, blocking up to 99% of the sun’s ultraviolet rays without blocking natural light and making it an excellent option for protecting people and belongings. Those same properties enable an Acrylic or Polycarbonate awning to resist damage from sun, snow or rain such as warping, fading, yellowing or other discoloration.
These awnings can withstand the harshest of environments and caring for them is minimal as they do not rust or require much maintenance.
Additionally, its high impact resistance makes the material virtually unbreakable. You may not need bulletproof glass, but any business or home located in Maui or any of our surrounding islands wants an awning that can withstand hurricane force winds. Our plastic awnings will do just that.
Plastic Awnings are very lightweight, accommodating lighter weight framing without sacrificing sturdiness or durability. Transportation and installation are less cumbersome, and that can help keep costs down.

Acrylic & Polycarbonate Windows
There are multiple benefits to choosing Acrylic or Polycarbonate over glass when it comes to windows and windshields:
Another area where Acrylic or Polycarbonate have an obvious edge, are in situations where damage to a window due to impact could cause a fatal loss, such as on in a submersible vehicle like a boat or submarine. Also, since the impact strength of Acrylic and Polycarbonate are higher than glass, they crack instead of shatter.
Acrylic and Polycarbonate are as clear as optical glass but allow more light while also filtering ultraviolet. Glass allows 80 percent to 90 percent of visible light to pass while acrylic and Polycarbonate transmits 92 percent. Also, Acrylic and Polycarbonate do not yellow with age or appear milky, as thicker panes of glass can.
When it comes to insulation, acrylic and polycarbonate are 20 percent more efficient than glass in reducing temperature flux, which means cool or warm air outside penetrates less easily than it would through standard glass. That can save you money on your electric or gas bill.
